HIP TIPS

Usability Tip:
RESET Button and Forms

No online form would be complete without a SUBMIT button. But what about that other button: the CLEAR or RESET button that erases the user's input? Does it help the user? Generally, the answer is no. Often a RESET button does more harm than good.

HTML Tip:
Renewed Importance Of META Tags

META tags are back — at least with some search engines. Depending on your site design and technology, good META tags may be one route to improved search engine rank.

CSS Tip:
You Are Here

One easy way to make your navigation menu more user-friendly is to disable the current page in the menu. We'll show you how to accomplish this using basic HTML and CSS: no JavaScript or PHP coding required!

Database Management Systems (DBMS)

A library is a database of documents. It has a specific purpose and it is organized according to that purpose.

Such traditional paper-based databases, however, have many disadvantages. They require a tremendous amount of physical space. Libraries occupy entire buildings and searching a library is relatively slow. They are also tedious to maintain and an inordinate amount of time is spent ensuring catalogs and shelves of books remain consistent.

Electronic storage of a database helps to address these issues. Computer software exists that enables a user to create, maintain and manage electronic databases.

This category of software is known as a database management system (DBMS). A DBMS acts a broker between the physical database and the users of that database.

A DBMS for a relational system is typically called a relational database management system (RDBMS).
